How to Find the Best Anti-Aging Routine for Your Skin: Try and Discover What Works for You

In today’s blog, I want to talk a little about finding what really works for you. We’ve already covered in previous posts why we age, how hormones, skincare, and lifestyle all play a part. But the real question is—what helps you specifically? No one can answer that for you. You can only find out through trying and testing things out for yourself.

One of my clients once told me how she almost got into a fight with her friend. The friend gets Botox, while she comes to me for a face massage. So which one is "better"? I told her honestly—neither is wrong. It’s a personal choice. Botox focuses on one specific area, while massage works on the entire face, neck, and décolletage. But at the end of the day, it’s up to each woman to choose what suits her best.

I have a close friend who’s nearly 60 and doesn’t do anything at all. She just uses a basic Nivea cream and is totally happy with how she looks. And you know what? That’s perfectly fine too. If someone is at peace with themselves, then nothing needs to be changed.

Then I also know someone else for whom appearance and aging have been a major concern since her 30s. She started really early—Botox, fillers, all kinds of treatments. Whatever was available, she tried it. Eventually, she didn’t even look like herself anymore. Some treatments didn’t suit her at all and left long-term side effects. At one point, she just stopped everything—even stopped using proper moisturizers. In her 40s, she felt very old and didn’t even want to go out and socialize. Eventually, she decided to go for a facelift surgery—without ever trying a gentler or alternative approach first.

I’m not against cosmetic surgery or injections. I believe everything should be balanced and well thought out. There are things I personally would never try on my own face—but I’ll share more about that another time.

The point I want to make is this: before you make any big decisions, take time to research. Ask yourself—is this really right for me? These days, there’s so much information available. Read about others’ experiences, look at before-and-after photos, talk to a specialist. One helpful resource is this Mayo Clinic guide on choosing cosmetic procedures responsibly: Cosmetic surgery.

What I find most difficult is when someone changes so much that they’re no longer recognizable—and then they’re left dealing with permanent consequences. In the end, we all need to find our own way. And what works for you, what truly suits you—that’s what makes you beautiful.
